To experience the best growth and development of your dragon fruit plant it needs to be supported by a strong trellis. The dragon fruit is a heavy cactus, with a spreading habit and long stems. Many growers choose to grow them up a pole with top support that allows them to hang down which stimulates budding and creates the typical “umbrella canopy”.
Homestead 2 You offers a wooden trellis option built upon special order. The finished trellis can be picked up locally or delivered locally for a small charge.
The standard trellis is built using pressure-treated lumber.
The structure is designed with a 24 x 24 planter box, a 4 x 4 post, and a 24 x 24 trellis top. 
The trellis is designed to be buried 3 feet in the ground with 5-foot exposed height - as seen in the photo to the right.
The depth is required to make sure the trellis does not lean or fall over due to the weight of the plants or high winds when they are fully grown.

The name of the dragon fruit variety (of your choice) can be carved into the wood side of the 24 x 24 planter box to help in future identification.
