Fast growing vining plant that thrives in hot climate. It can live year-round in tropical / frost free climate.
Leaves can be used in cooking much like regular spinach. Can be mixed in with other greens in a salad, used in smoothies, etc.
Planting
Plant Malabar Spinach in full sun. It can be grown from either seeds or cuttings. Scarify each seed; or soak the seeds in water for 24 hours prior to planting to soften the tough seed coat.
Grows best during warm, rainy periods. Prefers temperatures between 70 and 90°F. Grows fast and vines can reach 30+ feet, so trellising is best!
Produces small white to pink flowers, followed by dark purple berries. The red pigment of the berries is sometimes used as a dye.
Harvesting
Snip or pinch leaves and tender new stems as needed. Cutting encourages more growth.
